Q: cost to put in air conditioning in to toyota echo?
i bought a toyota echo back in 2002, at the time was looking just to have an economical good car....and it is a great car, but i didn't get it with A/C.....with the humid summers that we have in ontario canada i am thinking i should get A/C put in...do you knowif it can be done and what the cost would be? thank you very much~!

A: not worth the cost. easier to just buy another echo with AC.

Q: 2000 Toyota Echo hesitates on hard throttle after touching pos lead to negative terminal of battery?
Thought the intermittent radio function could be due to a build-up of static charge in the system. Therefore disconnected the positive lead and touched it to ground to release any charge on the system. Since then, when I give it gas quickly it almost seems to choke out. Never quite stalls, and still runs okay if I accelerate slowly, but didn't do this before. All I've done to the car is this static thing, and change the oil. Stopped in quickly to two dealerships: 1 Toyota tech figured I had completely reset the ECU and it had to re-learn all the timing etc. His solution was just to drive it, and it would eventually fix itself 2 Another tech figured I'd blown a fuse and put the car into limp mode. His solution was to find the fuse and replace. I've checked all the fuses, everything seems fine. Any help? The whole thing has just transpired yesterday. Car had previously ran quite well, and too cause-effect'ish to be a coincidence, nonetheless I will look at new fuel filters etc. There is no engine light on. What is the worst that could happen from grounding out the system like that? i.e. What havoc could I have wreaked, and could this all be fished out by reading the computer at a dealership?

A: I have seen fuses blow when a person reverse jumps the car, but with one of the cables disconnected there should not be enough current remaining anywhere to blow a fuse. That is not to say that it won’t cause havoc with electronics, but just not blow a fuse. I tend to agree with tech #1. When you touched the terminal, you effectively grounded any circuit in the car that is on at all times, including the battery back up for all ecus. HOPEFULLY all that did was drain the memory, but I have never seen it done before. How long ago was it? Is the Check Engine light on? If it is, go with the codes. If not, all I can recommend for now is to drive it. If it continues, someone will have to go through the diagnostic tree on the electronic throttle control system. Good luck! God Bless! 9/10 11:20 pm Well, it could have damaged the ECM which controls the ignition timing, injection, etc. The IAC could be involved, but its normal function is to go wide open when the throttle is opened, so it shouldn't make a difference. It could be in the fuel system, though, like you, I doubt it because of the relationship with the other. It is possible that someone could look at the data list and find the problem, but it won't be easy without a code to narrow the field, and the ECM could be reading one thing and doing another. Wish I could be of more help, but somethings I just have to have hands on to find.

Q: I adore the Toyota Echo, but there are virtually none available in my area. Similar car?
I currently drive a Dodge Dakota and CAN'T WAIT to get into a smaller, much more efficient vehicle. I fell in love with the Echo, but my hours of searching for one in my price range and in my area have turned up nothing. Is there another really cute car with good mileage, well-made, and cheap you would recommend? I don't really like the look of the Corolla, for example, and my budget is about $5K for a used car. Thanks!

A: 1. Toyota no longer makes the Echo. It did not sell well, and handled really badly & was very slow. 2. The car you want is a Honda Fit Sport or a Nissan Versa. Small sporty reliable safe. BUt you won't find one for $5K. Look for a used mazda3 or mazda protege.

Q: Which is generally better to buy, a Toyota Echo or Toyota Yaris?
2003 Echo 2007 Yaris I don't have a ton of money, and this is going to be my first "real" car. I figure Echo will probably be less on insurance and less money in general, but for only a few thousand more, there's the brand new Yaris, which will probably last longer, and is just generally better. Any thoughts?

A: You're right, but the cost difference is more than a few thousand. The Echo hasn't been made for a few years while a Yaris' first year was 06 or 07. If money is important, get the Echo. With proper maintanance you'll get 200K out of it easily.

Q: Can you change the rubber bushing on the front lower control arm of a Toyota Echo?
The rubber bushing has failed on our 2000 Echo - lower control arms both sides. To repair we need to order the entire control arm at a cost of $145+ (X2). Can you replace the bushing only? (The original bushing is pressed in. If we could find only the bushing I could press new one in at a much lower cost.)

A: I imagine you can. I had to replace the control arms on my car for the exact same thing (its not a Toyota though). I replaced the entire arm at 100 dollars a piece. Then i found out later on my paticular car you can buy just the bushings and do it. But, the thing is if you buy the whole control arm it probably comes with a new ball joint attached-at least mine did. So it might be worth spending the extra cash and taking care of all of that at once depending on your situation. In fact if the control arm does come with the ball joints if i were you i would just go ahead and buy the whole new arm-if it is in your budget. You will be better off in the long run.

Q: What is causing my 2002 Toyota Echo to Leak water into my Passenger side?
It is happening everytime I run the AC. How can I fix this myself?

A: the drain for your evaporator case is probably plugged. normally the water runs through a drain but if its clogged, it will drain in your car. i would get under your vehicle, find the drain, and then use a coat hanger top stick it up the drain to break the gunk up

Q: Anyone on here have pics of there 2004 toyota echo with the rubber bumper?
Id like to see one as I really have seen only one other pic on the net. Its weird. I just bought one and these cars with these bumpers are so rare. NO. My bumper is grey.

A: http://www.driverside.com/app/images/stock_images/1683.jpg Is this what you are looking for

Q: How much to replace a cracked and broken front bumper of a 2004 Toyota Echo Hatchback.?
i am looking to replace it new from a body shop.

A: 40 bucks max if you buy the bumper from a junkyard / someone with a wrecked car. Look up on craigslist / auto parts section. You can fit it yourself, its a piece of cake

Q: Whats the max miles a Toyota Echo can have?
I love my little echo, The ugly little beast, it gets btwn 35-39mpg. I was curious how long the little echos can push it, 200,000? 250? I know toyotas can go pretty long. I have good maintence.

A: If you go to Toyota Nation.com, you will find that I posted a buddy of mine's 2001 Echo with over 400,000 trouble-free miles on it last year in the Toyoa Echo forum. I even posted pics (not photoshopped; they are real). He's a messenger and uses this car for his job. I haven't seen him in a couple of weeks but he is now at over 480,000 miles. Here is the post I posted last year on his Echo. http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/showthread.php?t=235742 By the way, Echos were never crappy. They just didn't sell as well as Toyota projected. The Echos replacement (the Yaris) sells a lot better and is the one with the quality problems.

Q: How hard is it to replace the air compressor yourself on a 2003 Toyota Echo?
Someone wanted to charge me $1600 to replace this thing. I've looked for the part on the internet, and it looks to be roughly $360ish. My next question is...if it is reasonably impossible to replace myself (I'm not a car expert) then how much should I be charged for something like this? What if I bought the part myself?

A: Without some knowledge of a/c units you could end up spending 4 to 500 dollars & still have a broken a/c if you do it yourself. Get some bids on the repair work from others to keep them honest. You probably don't have a vacuum pump to remove air & moisture from the system or the gages to properly fill it either.

Q: What is the best way that I can play my Ipod in my Toyota Echo?
I know I can purchase an FM transmitter for the iPod (iTrip), but does this cause a lot of static on the playback? Is there way that I can install an input jack in the factory audio system?

A: I found the best thing since sliced bread...http://www.crutchfield.com/S-9oDEWuNVIo6/cgi-bin/prodview.asp?i=142FMMOD01 It's not wireless so there's no interference. Not to be confused with an FM transmitter. Basically it adds an AUX input to ANY radio. It feeds your audio signal from a headphone jack ( or RCA cables) by FM modulation, directly into the antenna input on your radio bypassing the antenna when on, allowing the radio to work as normal when off. It comes with an On/Off switch. This is the answer. Totally versatile.

Q: 2000 Toyota Echo takes a while to start and doesn't move unless you pump the gas pedal?
what the hell does that mean? once it gets going the gas pedal works fine but sometimes to get it going you have to pump the gas pedal to it to get into gear.

A: Possibly a bad fuel pump, fuel sending unit, or fuel pressure regulator... My guess is just a dirty fuel filter though. Get the fuel delivery system tested at a Toyota dealer, they'll be able to tell you if there are any problems in the fuel system (if it's not just the filter).

Q: How to fix my car horn for Toyota Echo 2001?
Okay this may sound stupid but I was angry after getting my car stuck in a pile of snow and was stuck for 40 mins. So I got so angry that I punched my steering wheel on the horn button. The next day I went to honk the horn and after the 2nd honk the horn just died. Im sure the actual horn works fine but im assuming that something went wrong with the horn button on my steering wheel. How can I check that?

A: Nice one spaz, that's something I would do. If you have air bags, take the negative off the battery. Pop the cover where the horn is and look in there, I am sure something broke under the cover as these parts are very fragile.

Q: Where is the valet switch on a 2001 Toyota Echo sedan?
My car came with a factory installed alarm system. I bought a replacement key fob for the alarm. In order to get my car to recognize the new key fob, I need to hit the valet switch 5 times. I looked everywhere I could think of: on the dashboard, under the dashboard, inside the dashboard... I even pulled up the carpet. Where is the darn thing?

A: Try these instructions for the Toyota Yaris from the same generation instead (the Echo was the US name for that body style/generation of Yaris): http://toyotaownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=85266 good luck!
