Q: first generation lexus ls400 and first gen toyota avalon?
was the toyota avalon inspired by the lexus ls400? i was browsing the picture and both of them are closely similar to each other when it comes to the design except for the emblem.
and the lexus is more money. soo i was thinking if i buy a toyota avalon would i get the same or close when it comes to the features of the lexus ls400? thank you.
A: no.
The 1st gen Avalon was a widened Camry - intended for the "Buick" market. It is a soft low end luxury car. It has front wheel drive and a V6.
The 1st gen LS400 was a shot at Mercedes Benz; a bit more than a E class, not quite a S class. It is fast, incredibly smooth, high end performance luxury sedan. It has rear wheel drive and a V8.
The Avalon has more room inside and will get better fuel economy, but is lacking in features and refinement.
Q: How does the Toyota Camry compare to the Toyota Avalon?
I see they made the Camry a lot nicer and I'm debating if I should buy that or the Avalon.
A: The biggest difference is size - the Avalon is bigger. If you don't need the extra space, don't pay the extra money to get it, you can buy a Camry with all the bells and whistles that is offered on the Avalon.
EDIT - it's amazing how C7S became a "top contributor" when he so often posts wrong information. To be clear - the Lexus ES and the Camry are the same platform (although different sheetmetal and interior, but the Avalon is larger than either. It has a longer wheelbase, is longer overall, wider, and taller, and has more room inside. Is the Avalon based on the Camry platform? Yes, it is, but it is larger, and cannot be called the "same car" or a "twin". The Cadillac STS is a longer version of the CTS, but it's not the same car.
If you don't need the extra space of the Avalon, buy the Camry
Q: Blinking check engine light on Toyota Avalon!! What does it mean?
I have a 1996 Toyota Avalon, the XLS model. I have already repaired my car when the check engine light went off the first time, but then it came back. I thought it may just be a error, and plus I don't want to spend any money on getting my car checked. So I was driving my car, with the check engine light solid. After a couple of days, it started to blink. I have been with the Toyota company since 81, and this was a first.
I can't seem to find out what the problem is that is making my check engine light blink.
Please, help me. Thanks in Advance!
A: could be as simple as a bad spark plug causing a mis. how's your fuel mileage doing? you need to get someone to run your codes and find out what the issue is. good luck
Q: Why have the speedometer and other gauges stopped working on my 2001 Toyota Avalon?
My Avalon wouldn't start the other day. I looked under the hood and saw the battery needed tightening. That solved the problem, as well l as making the Check Engine light go off. Now my speedometer and other gauges don't work. Do I need a new fuse(s) or is it something else?
A: Try unhooking the battery for a few minutes, then reconnect.
Q: Can anyone tell me how to program remote control on 2000 Toyota Avalon?
Can some help me program a remote control on 2000 Totota Avalon. My original one broke, I went to a dealer, they want too much for a new one. So, I have bought couple used once. I need instructions to install them. Thanks for Your Help.
A: Go to www.programyourremote.com. Follow the links to the 2000 Avalon. I just compared the directions to Toyota, and they are correct. programyourremotes.com (with an S) is the WRONG site.
Hope this helps! God Bless!
Q: Will a double DIN stereo fit in a 2002 Toyota Avalon XLS?
Will a double DIN stereo fit in a 2002 Toyota Avalon XLS?

Q: My 1996 Toyota Avalon XLS is idling at 1750 rpm when I first start the car. What could be wrong?
The air temperature is between 25 and 45 degrees F when I start the car. I have changed the temperature sensor but it has not helped. The idle speed drops to about 750 after the engine is warmed up.
A: why would you scan it if there is no engine light on the dash? sounds like a normal startup routine.
Q: Should I buy a 1998 Toyota Avalon with 125k miles and right wheel issue for $1k??
Hello, Im a college student driving an 1995 chyrsler concorde that has many issues with it, mostly electric I was wondering if I should buy a toyota avalon that my friend's dad will sell to me for $1,000. Is it a good buy? Please let me know what you think?
A: BUY THAT CAR. Even if you do not like it or do not want to fix, that car is worth at least triple what you are paying for it. You can afford to gamble for that price.
If you do not want it tell me where it is and I will buy it .
Q: How much mpg does the 98 toyota avalon get?
also do you know any decent cars that have a pretty good gas milage? not the brand new ones or the 2000's.
A: The 1998 Toyota Avalon averages about 22 mpg on the road, according to the Energy Department's EPA estimates. The highway estimate is 27 mpg and in city driving the estimate is 19 mpg. The Avalon, which first went on sale in 1994, was essentially a little larger Camry, which put it in the large car category. The Camry, on the other hand, is considered a midsize car model. The most fuel-efficient models will be compacts, followed by midsize models. Compacts often have mileage ratings in the 30 and higher mpg ranges. As for dependable, small vehicles--you might look for used Chevrolet Prizms, Toyota Echos, and even the first-generation Prius--it first was sold in the U.S. in 2001. Some other models to consider that most likely offer higher fuel economy levels would include: Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Ford Focus, VW smaller models, Chevrolet Cavalier among others. The 4-cylinder engine powered Toyota Camry and Honda Accord also would be fuel-efficient choices. Q: How does cruise control work on a 1996 toyota avalon? or any toyota for that matter?
I'm going on a road trip and im gonna be on the highway for several hours and want to know.
A: turn on cruise control. you press the button on the tip of the stick. after doing this, a light in the dash that says "cruise" should appear. this indicates that the cruise control is on.
you push the stick down then release to set the cruise control and then release the gas pedal. this should set the cruise control.
so that's it. you know you can also accelerate with cruise control? all you need to do is push the lever up.
if you want to just coast, just push the stick down. then release when you reach your desired speed/
Q: 1995 Toyota Avalon: Check Engine light is on...How can I check/flash the codes myself without a scan tool?
I have been told there is a way to put a jumper wire between two connections to flash the codes but I need to know which connections to jumper, and exactly where they are located. Thanks in advance for any help.
A: even if you can flash the codes on the dash, they will flash by numbers ( how many times it flashes) and you will a book to know what does that code means. so it is easier to go with OBD II
Q: Why does my '99 Toyota Avalon take so long to shift into a higher gear?
Even though the car is in a garage,(garage is a tuck under--bedrooms above--so even in the winter it is usually 45 degrees or above (I live in MN)) it seems to be taking longer to "warm up" before it shifts into a higher range. I've checked the fluid level and it full. I have about 142000 miles on it. Would changing the tran's fluid help, or is there a sensor or something that perhaps is going bad? Thanks for any suggestions.
A: you probably needs trtansition service.
- hope i helped
Q: How can i replace a lost aftermarket remote for my 99 toyota avalon?
will another remote work with the system already in my car or will a whole new system have to be put in and where, if possible, is the best online business to order the remote. Will i need detailed instructions to set the remote or will it come with directions?
A: look on e-bay as I have seen them on there for like $17 and the dealer gets $75 for them, I don't know if instructions come with them or not but I have read on here where people say there are on line instructions on how to set them for differen't cars.
Q: How many seats and seat belts are there in the 1998 Toyota Avalon XLS Sedan 4D?
Some websites say 5 seats and others say 6. They say that the middle seat in the front doesnt need a seat belt. Is that true? Why doesnt it need one? Will the police be okay about it if someone sits in the front middle seat without a seatbelt. Help me please!
Toyota let you opt for a 3-passenger bench seat in front with a column-mounted shifter or 2 bucket seats with a center counsel-mounted shifter. So does that mean that it is illegal or legal to sit there? Is that a special settting?
A: Some of the cars are equipped with 6 seats and some have 5. Toyota let you opt for a 3-passenger bench seat in front with a column-mounted shifter or 2 bucket seats with a center counsel-mounted shifter. It just depends on what configuration it is set up with. Many other cars are offered that way too, namely Buicks and the discontinued Ford Taurus.
