Q: What is a fair estimate for the following amount of work to be done on my 2001 Nissan Maxima?
What is a fair estimate for the following amount of work to be done on my 2001 Nissan Maxima? * Replacing the Catalytic Converter (including the B2 Catalyst and O2 sensor) * Replacing the caliper and cable for the rear emergency break. Thanks! J

A: Cat coverter can run appx. $1,000.00 with labor. Check your emissions warranty. They usually cover up to 80k miles. O2 sensor apprx $200.00. Caliper and cable - apprx. $150 - $200. These are rough estimates of the dealer service charges. You may be able to get better prices from non-dealer repair shops.

Q: what parts do i need to change on 95 nissan maxima V6 with diagnostic codes?
95 nissan maxima with diagnostic codes: P0505, P0325, P1400, P0130 & P0150. what parts do i need to fix these codes. i went to autozone but couldn't really pinpoint exactly what parts are needed on all codes.

A: Your codes make zero sense... Here is how to get the codes directly from your ECU.. http://vbxmaxima.8m.com/ecu.html Here is how to figure out what those codes are once you have them.. http://vbxmaxima.8m.com/ecudecoder.html Dont be surprised if you get a few ghost codes that have no meaning. Every 4th gen has meaningless ghost codes when onboard diagnostics are ran.

Q: What to look for when Buying A used Nissan Maxima?
Okay I have got my eyes on a 2000-2001 Nissan Maxima to buy. When I go to looka t these used cars what should I look for and what Should Iask the owner? What particular part of the car should I pay close Attnetion too? How do I know if that part of the car is working properly? HELP! E Z 10 Points!

A: Electrical issues pop up on these cars from time to time. The most common: failures in one or more of the ignition coils. If the Service Engine Soon light is on, pass it up unless the seller agrees to fix whatever is malfunctioning. Otherwise, the powertrains are close to bulletproof; getting 200,000, even 300,000 miles out of these cars is not so difficult if you stay up with maintenance requirements.

Q: My 93 Nissan Maxima doesn't start, what's wrong with it?
I've got a 93 Nissan Maxima. It's not starting. The battery is fine. The starter was replaced about 3 months ago. The alternator isn't more than 3 years old. It turns over and there's power, but it just won't start. Any ideas?

A: Check if you still have gas. If you do, see if your fuel filter and fuel lines are clogged. If its okay, look inside your distributor cap and see if its wet. If its dry check your spark plugs. If all else fail call a mechanic

Q: What wheel-type of my Nissan Maxima GLE 1996?
I own Nissan Maxima GLE 1996, but i have no idea it's a four-wheel drive, 2 front-wheel drive or 2 rear-wheel drive? How do i know that? What do those terms mean actually? Thanks.

A: 2 rear-wheel drive. It means the rear wheels are what moves the car.

Q: Knock sensor on a 96 nissan maxima? What is this? ?
How do I replace a knock sensor on a 96 Nissan Maxima? What is a reasonable price to pay to have someone work on this? Thank you, Romeo's Wife

A: the knock sensor is located under the intake manifold if you remove the air intake tube you can see it. a mechanic with a special 12mm universal socket on the end of a 12 inch quarter drive extension should be able to replace it without having to remove the intake.most shops will charge the removal of the intake according to labor time in Chilton's labor time book. which can be 3 to 5 hours. find a tech can do it at home and save yourself some money.special note.. the knock sensor will set a diagnostic trouble code but will never turn on your check engine light on so in reality you shouldn't replace it.

Q: I own a Nissan Maxima and after pressing lock on the car remote i do not hear a beep. What should I do?
The car is a 2001 Nissan Maxima.

A: In Nissan cars, it actually does not only beep upon second press of the button, it should beep every time you press the lock button, there are 2 programmed options for your keyfob, either off, or on. Or as Nissan calls this Beep or Quiet. If this doesnt work then its likely broken. Flip your keyfob over, and look at the back. There should be instructions on how to put it in and out of quiet mode. Mine says hold both lock and unlock for 2 seconds to switch between beep and quiet. Hope that helps

Q: Which should I look into buying a Nissan Maxima before the design change?
Or the Nissan Altima with the 270 hp engine? I'm not a fan of Hondas but anyways thats some good advice though.

A: if you buy the current body dtyle befroe they remodel the maxima, you should get a better deal when you purchase it. however a couple of years down the road when you want to resale it will not be worth as much because you have the "old" body style. its kinda weird how that works, but thats life, so you can either save money now and you car not be worth as much in 3-4 years, or spend more now to have a vehicle that will retain its value longer. I love the new altima and i believe it would be a great car to own, but the maxima is just a slightly nicer car, its more of a luxury type car than the altima. I understand how the car business works, my family has owned a honda dealership for 3 generations and i have dealt with every scenario possible, take my word for it. and if you want another option honda is coming out with its new body style this fall and the v6 accord will boast a 270hp motor as well.

Q: What does it mean when the brake and battery lights go on in my 97 nissan maxima?
1997 maxima Brake and battery light stay on I think it is a code and means something but dont know what

A: good bet its not charging right.... so check the belt check the battery cables... check the wires that come off the battery where they split (hot wire) and or just drive it to auto zone have them test the charging system

Q: Is the Nissan 2009 Maxima with Premium + Technology Packages Really 'Worth It'? How do you like yours?
Is the Nissan 2009 Maxima with Premium + Technology Packages Really 'Worth It'? How do you like yours? This question goes out to only those who drive a 2009 (not a 2008) Maxima, preferably with the Premium + Technology packages. How good is the equiptment? Is it worth the pretty penny on a lease?

A: 9.3 gig hard drive, Navigation. Satellite radio and bluetooth along with a really cool looking car. Be sure you also get the I-Pod interface. I work on Nissan's for a living. The economic downturn may make Maxima a good deal because if the USA keeps printing money the car will only cost more in the future. If you have to lease you may want to purchase it at the end of the lease term. If the economy turns to inflation Maxima will only cost more by then.

Q: where is the knock sensor locted at on a 96 nissan maxima?
i have a 1996 nissan maxima i need to change the knock sensor i need to find out where its located i really need to fix this car i drive a long way to and from work its costing so much in gas i loose half of my fuel with this prob

A: The knock sensor is located below the intake manifold, right in the middle of the "v" of the engine. Here is a link to a "how-to" guide that shows exacly how to change it, with helpful pictures: http://www.motorvate.ca/mvp.php/507 It is a tight space to work in, but with the help of a long-extension ratchet, and a telescoping magnetic tool ($5 at the parts store - looks like a radio antenna with a magnetic tip), you can easily do it yourself. The most difficult part is getting the bolt threaded when you are reinstalling the new knock sensor. You can probably find a new sensor on ebay for a good price compared to the dealer's parts department. It took less than 30 minutes to do this job on my Maxima. If you need more tips, check out the forums on "www.maxima.org" - there are lots of very helpful people on there! Good luck.

My son back into one of our cars with his nissan and not it won't start. I know there is a fuel cut off switch but we can not find it. He does not have a manual with the car so please help us out. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help.

A: It does not have a fuel cut-off switch.

Q: How would I install ABS on a '95 Nissan Maxima?
I know nissan added $800 to the overall cost of the car when purchased new so I think I should be able to install it with used parts myself for around $300, I just don't know what I need - parts wise. Thanks.

A: Early ABS Maxima systems need correct inputs of speed sensors not included on your axles or drilled holes in the front steering knuckles or rear bearing hubs. That is the first big mess. Each sensor is a magnetic switch struts for ABS cars are different abs wire holders made on them and running additional 8 wires and shielding to the ABS actuator under the air filter. That is the second big mess. Next those brake hoses in the engine compartment look closely you almost have to remove the power train to fasten them down properly and the Actuator it self actually sits just above the transmission next to the starter motor. Third big mess. Your brake master Cly has 5 outlets ABS has two fourth big mess Now the Biggie Wiring harness has to be completely water tight Your engine control module and transmission control module are not ABS compatible Fifth big mess... I don't want to say it cannot be done. The average owner feels the ABS engage two or three times a year. Most the time they come running to the dealer complaining my brake did something wrong There was this noise the brake pedal shook? You Know Sexy Ray Save your self Lot's of problems trade old paint in for a new Altima Coupe with a 3.5 engine and technology package * air bags 8 of them ABS, VDC, Bluetooth, and CVT. Nissan cars have come a long way in 13 years!

Q: how do i take out the fuel injestors on a 92 nissan maxima??
i have a nissan maxima and according to the mechanic i have a misfire in cylinder 2 and five so he tells me i need to replace the injectors ...i think to my self well i cant be rocket science so i wanna do it my self ... by the way im replacing all of them

A: It is harder than you think also several gaskets are obselete. Upper intake plenium and gasket and several coolant hoses have to be removed. Air inlet boot almost always tears so get ready for extra things to ruin your day. Each injector is sealed to the fuel rail with two o rings the top cap is held with #2 philips screws that strip out Motorcycle impact screwdriver amd WD-40 really works there. Grasp each injector big slip jaw pliers twist and pull. Grease the new injector o ring to prevent tearing and cutting. Which by the way you won't know you done until you reassemble the whole car and start the engine. Take your time buy all the coolant hoses vacuum hoses and valve cover gaskets while the intake is off, new PCV hoses air intake boot before you start. and use up the entire day. Don't get discouraged if you cut an injector o ring you will get good at removing the intake when it has new rubber hoses it is easy. 18 year old rubber hoses break.

Q: does anybody else like the new nissan MAXIMA?
I love it! i just got back from the LA auto show and they had it there. fully loaded, top of the line. let me tell you...it is so nice! there reallly is no difference between the interior of the maxima and the infiniti G or even M. and that engine is powerfull too. 290 hp. it all comes at a price though. 38k fully loaded so 42 43k out the door. thats a lot for a nissan maxima but totally worth it. who else likes it?

A: I would consider it. But then again, i do have an FJ Cruiser. Its an 07 silver v6. With new tires, great sound system. Its also 4x4, has rear lock diffs that trigure via sensor. compass, level, and cool looks.. It comes with 3 windshield wipers. Did i mention the back speakers do work. It comes with head room, speakers, speakers, speakers.. haha
