Q: is the mazda rx7 and rx8 classed as a girls car like the sunfire or tiburon?
and how many seats?coupe or hatch?

A: Hell no, they are both pure sports cars. Though girls do love them, doesn't mean they are a girl's car. RX-7s are either 2 seater or 4 seater coupes. RX-8s have 4 seats and rear suicide doors.

Q: do i have a chance to compete in a sound off competition using the stock speaker locations on a 85 mazda rx7?
i wanna run two 4" focal utopias up front & 61/2" focal utopias in the rear. for bass, i want to run to 6" bazookas hidden in rear under carpet next to taillights. amps i want to run in a 100-500watt class. my head unit is a eclipse monitor & amps are 2 old school soundstream polished 1.0 amps rated at 100watts & a 5.0 rated at 50watts. both stable at 1/4ohm & can really push out 2500watts. do i have a chance w/ this set up? or should i change focals to mb quart q's, alpine spx, or any other advice? as 4 spl, how about if i replace the 6" bazooka subs to better ones? the reason for this set up is that i want to keep the car looking stock & bazookas can be hidden in rear. ok how about 10" bazookas w/ woofers replaced w/ image dynamics id max subs?

A: it depends on the class your entering, i dont know much about sound competions but i think you might have a chance at sq. But spl you would get blown away. Almost literaly! It really depends on what class you plan on intering.

Q: questions about maintaining my 86 mazda rx7?
ok i just bought it and changed spark plugs and fuel filter.and it still runs rough and basically cuts out at 3500 rpm in every gear..any reason for that?and need to know what kind of oil is preffered etc...thanks

A: Well, the 1980's RX-7's are actually pretty good cars, I've seen a couple of them, bone stock, blow the doors off of the best of today's supposed "American muscle" machines. I'd recommend finding a local import shop to rebuild your engine right off the start, it'll cost a good few dollars, but it's well worth it if you're serious about driving this car the way it was meant to be driven. As far as your oil goes, that depends on where you're at, different constant air temperatures call for different weights of oil in order to compensate for the heat/chill that will be affecting your engine. Also, for the record, I'd rather take a 22-year old car than most of the crap on the road today. You might not always get the same mileage as you would on the new cars, but at least you know you can run your car flat-out without having to worry about frying some $2000 computer chip, and a good, mainly metal body stands up a lot better than plastic parts and a few balloons.

Q: Mazda RX7 '88 and my engine won't start please help.?
i have an Mazda RX7 '88 and my engine won't start please help, its not starting up and idling. it makes the noise to start but it sounds like its struggling, its not the battery, radiator. and its sounds the gas is going through the engine but it doesn't want to start compeletly.if you have pictures that would help tremendously thanks thank you 81mustang for the advice and also i was going to say the same thing rotary don't have vavles

A: Sounds like you're flooded to me. Here's a simple trick, from a fellow FC owner. Is the engine turning over when you crank it? If you turn the key and the starter doesn't do anything, you should pull it and clean up the contacts. My car (87 RX7) had starting issues and this resolved it. Under the hood on the driver's side, there are a row of fuses. Pull the innermost one out and give the car a crank for a few seconds. Put that fuse back in and it should start because you forced the fuel out of the engine by pulling the fuse and cranking it. Should it still not start, remove the Trailing (top) spark plugs and put a teaspoon of automatic transmission fluid in the spark plug hole to lubricate the apex seals. Should it still not start, time for a compression test. See www.rx7club.com for more details on how to do it with a regular compression gauge. You might want to sign up too, it's a really good, helpful site. Are you letting it warm up on every cold start? 10-15 minutes every time can mean the difference between getting 40,000 miles and 400,000 miles from a rotary engine. That's the number one rule for maximum engine life and ease of starting. your friend and fellow series 4 FC owner, Travis

Q: How reliable are older mazda rx7's?
If they have problems, what is the most common. Are they expensive to fix and find parts for? Thanks

A: i love the old rotaries...i like working on them... but i am a mechanic....they are expensive to fix, getting harder to find parts for them. They also CAN go more than 150k miles...if you are very careful about your maintenence schedule and stick to it. It is a very collectable sports car, can be made to go very very fast. Other than that, go for it....

Q: I have an 86 mazda rx7 were can i find quality parts. Everything from brakes, spark plugs to mufflers and such?
even other items like headers, intakes, and transmission parts as well

A: 86 ehh... i would say Racing Beat.. they do lots of professional rebuilding and also have lots of good parts .. they also specialize in rotaries.. you should try RE amemiya for jdm parts though.. but its a hassle to come across.

Q: My 1988 Mazda rx7 is makng a humming noise when I press on the gas. What do you think it is?

A: Are you new to this car and to rotary engines? All rotary engines make a humming sound compared to piston engines. It's because rotary engine parts rotate as opposed to reciprocate like in a piston motor.

Q: where can I get the parts to convert my rotery engin into a small block 250 in my mazda rx7?
i need to put a small block 250 into my rx7 but i heard that i needed some specal parts to convert the engin bay

A: What year Rx7...and did you mean 350 Ive heard of the Small Block "350" being swapped into 93+ Rx7s. But if you need parts, the best place is the local salvage yard. I would prefer going to insurance auctions to get a car that had the motor you want....that way you get ALL the parts you need and dont have to be fishing around for misc parts. But part needed will be a modified subframe. If you have a 93+ RX-7 I would be interested in your Rotary once you get your donor engine.

Q: Is it at all possible to put a nos system in my 85 mazda rx7 that has a twin turbo in it?

A: You can put NOS in anything, it's just a matter of how bad you wanna blow the motor?!!! Twin turbos is already pushing pretty hard, but seeing you're rotary, it shouldn't hurt it too much. Just make sure all your seals can take the extra pressure.

Q: Mazda Rx7 Convertible help! How to find a part number?
I'm having trouble with my convertible top. It's a power top and won't open and i think one of the switches is bad. It thinks the top is open when it is not, that switch is what is bad not the main rocker switch. I went to auto zone but they need a part number for the switch and i have do idea how to find it.

A: That is going to be a dealer part. Call the dealer or a junk yard.

Q: what do u think is the best car mazda rx7 tt or toyota supra tt and what year.?
I am planning to get one of them in the near future.

A: toyota any year

Q: I have a Mazda RX7 engine and Serial #. How can I tell what year it is or what VIN it came frome?

A: Typically the VIN number is posted somewhere on the motor itself. I've never dealt with the RX7, but on my MX5 the VIN is stamped on the block. It should be on there somewhere. Mazda has always been pretty good about putting the VIN everywhere. It is even posted on my fender wells.

Q: What engine will fit in an '88 Mazda RX7?
An engine that has many options for working on. And doing the swap with as little headache as possible. Thank You! "with as little..." I don't want to spend 30k (for just a swap) on a 3k car, you know what I mean?

A: If your not prepared for heaches then working on cars is not for you. Engine swaps from another brand into another brand will always pose problems. You will most likely need to fabricate new engine and tranny mounts, etc etc. Do your research before you start cutting anything up. Q: WHAT ENGINE IS IN a MAZDA RX7 ?
I KEEP ON SEEING THAT MAZDA RX7 HAS A 1.3LITRE ENGINE,...... HOW THE HELL DOES THIS WORK!!! PEOPLE CAN GET ANYTHING LIKE 500BHP FROM THESE CARS SO HOW DO THEY GET THIS FROM 1.3 LITRES?? IS THIS TRUE OR WHAT? SOME1 SET ME STRAIGHT! THANKS

A: Yes the RX-7 does only have a 1.3 liter engine, and no pistons. Yes thats right no pistons, so how do people get them to dyno 500 bhp or more with no pistons and insufficient displacement? Well Felix Wankel is responsible for that. The RX-7 sports a Wankel Rotary engine. The engine is comprised of 2 triangular shaped piston equivalents and each of the faces preform the role of intake, compression/combustion, exhausts. They spin in a circular motion and at any given time all six of the sides are preforming a different one of the 3 stages. Thus the engine is an equivalent of a v6 capable of 275 bhp stock with the turbo version. The code for the RX-7 engine is rb13 if you google that you can get a lot more information. The new RX-8 uses an updated version of the Wankel rotary renames the REMISIS it is also 1.3L but low horse power due to Mazda opting out of a Turbo version and Detuning the engine a bit. The main difference between the two engines is the relocation of the exhaust ports to make the engine more emissions friendly. Check this site out for some more info: www.rx7guru.com If your looking into one of these cars I STRONGLY recommend them I've had one (1993 Twin Turbo Midnight Blue 578 bhp) for 3 years now and its just an amazing car I love it

Q: is a mazda rx7 a good buy for $8000 au dollars?
there is a mazda rx7 on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Mazda-RX7-series-5-13b-turbo-rotary_W0QQitemZ270155893745QQihZ017QQcategoryZ135568QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem it is 8000 dollars . who thinks this is a good deal ? i dont really know much about rotorys so im not to sure ?

A: man it's too old for $8000, and that's just the starting bid... rotary engines are delicate if they are not well taken care of, by the look of it, it seems it belonged to some wanna be racer guy, which indicates it was punished at some point... and by that ugly thing on the hood, which i doubt it's an original attribute of rx7's... so if it were me i would look for an rx7 that seems as stock and unmodified as possible
