Q: How reliable and practical if a vehicle would a Honda prelude be?
I am in the market for a different car and am leaning toward purchasing a 2001 prelude with 45k miles. The car is a base model with an auto tranmition. Can anyone tell me about thier praticality in terms of how long they should last, how it would drive in snow and if you have owned one did you like it? A: the most efficient?
probably an 88-90 S. the SOHC twin carb was pretty efficient (if somewhat slow and boring), and the chassis is pretty aerodynamic (if somewhat stuck in the 80s).
i got close to 28 average in mine, while I only average 26 or so in my Si.
Q: What should I do about my 95 Honda Prelude radiator coolant leak?
My 95 prelude just had approx. $2500 work of work in January 2006 which included a new head, radiator, etc. Now, the radiator is leaking again. It was done by a small mechanic shop so I'm guessing it's not under any kind of warranty. It looks as though it's rubbing against something at the bottom right (when looking at the front of the car) which caused a small crack. It drips inconsistently throughout the day after I fill the reserve tank in the morning. I was able to move the radiator away from the metal object it's rubbing against, and water poured out of it. So it looks like it's actually the cause and the preventative of my leak. I noticed the radiator was metal (not sure what kind of metal) so is there any way to weld or repair the crack, or would it be best to replace it myself and avoid other objects when the new one is installed? Thanks for the info.
A: i own a repair shop and that was a lot of money to spend on that year of a car,and it still give problems,even if it was done by a small shop and they used a new radiator in it,it probably has a good warranty on it,maybe a life time warranty on the radiator,or it should have, i buy all mine through advance auto parts all of there's come with a life time warranty,id check with them,and see, if you drive this one and get it hot again,it will fry the engine in it,i would call them as soon as it turns daylight tomorrow,don't take a chance on ruining this one,even small shops back up there work with some kind of a warranty,good luck with it i hope this helps.
Q: how do I make my honda prelude faster then a gti without changing exhaust?
my best friend just bought a 2001 volkswagen vr6 last night and my 99 prelude is now challenged for the crown of fastest car among our friends. I want to make my car faster without adding exhaust because i hate the loud drone of an exhaust system. what can i do to do the engine naturally (no turbo) that will increase hp and make my car fly by his gti like hes standing still? I guess another side question to this question is whats the best way to start/launch my car in first gear? vtec kicks in around 5200 but tires spin so its tough to get a good start and he smokes me everytime cause he has traction control. any help is appreciated. thanks!
A: first off everyone is acting like the vr6 is a freaking beast on the road. I have driven one and I have driven a modified civic that was just as fast without a turbo. If it was the new 06 vr6 you would have no hope but the 01 you coul definatly get him. Look the prelude engine you have is an h22 and its pretty good once you open it up. All you need is a good cold air intake(look into injen), a performance exaust system that is dyno proveen to increase horsepower beccause not all of them will, and a good pair of headers(dc has good ones). Also a high flow cat would help. I garuantee you dont need more than that to beat if not keep up with him. You can also try getting a racing chip but if you do that change some of the internals of your engine(like racing cams or pistons).That stuff will cause serious bucks though. You can also get a plug n play or one with a v-tec controller so you can set when you want the v-tec to kick in. My friend had a b18c engine that was a mere 190 hp and he ordered some JDM parts did some work to the engine and turned it into a naturally aspired 400hp monster. No turbo. So you dont always need a turbo to make your engine fast.
Q: How can I get better reception on my Alpine radio on my Honda Prelude?
Bought a used prelude with a new Alpine stereo. AM station is distorted, paricularly when the rpms increase. FM reception bad in general. Auto antenna.
Is there a way to beef up the reception and clarity?
A: Put a power filter (inductive type) between HU and battery. Get an FM booster. Just be aware a booster will boost everything, this means outside interference.
Possibly have the auto antenna checked for bad connection or replace it.

i have a honda prelude 2.0 si i starte the car and it turns on then when i push on the gas is shakes and kinda back fires i just put a engin in and ran fine for 5 days then it started this yesterday i dont know it sounds like its taking in air but i checked all the vacum hoses and kinda think it may be the programmed fuel injected dont know what you think?

The celica GTS has a 1.8L inline 4 and a 6 speed manual, and the prelude has a 2.2L vtech with a 5 spd manual. The prices are very similar, and i wanted some advice as to which one i should get. Thanks.
A: I am a hardcore Toyota loyalist but the Prelude beats the GTS in every department.
They make a million performance and factory parts for the Prelude so you will have selection and good pricing. The H22 is a beast and is very sought after, and I hate to admit it but it spanks the GTS's VVTLi 1.8 motor. Lots of people have Celica's but SH's turn more heads (especially at 5000+RPMS). A Honda Vtec 4 cylinder coupled to a Honda manual transmission is a beautiful thing.
Q: what is the best header and exhaust for a 5th gen honda prelude?
i have a 5th generation prelude withe a couple of mods, such as a vtec controller and a cold air setup. i am trying to decide what header and exhaust would be good for my car.
A: The Megan Racing setup is becoming real popular around and has a nice low bass sound to it. I have a 93 hatch with the setup and never seems to diplease me. The header will run you from 170-190 and the exhaust will run you 350. Great system for a lower cost that competes with Skunk2, Greddy, HKS, DC Sports.
Q: Trouble removing engine & transmission from a '94 Honda Prelude?
We're having trouble getting the motor out of a 1994 Honda Prelude 2.2 single cam. Everything is unhooked and unbolted. We have checked and rechecked, and checked again.
There should be nothing holding the engine & trans in place, yet it still won't come out. It rises about 4 inches and then begins to lift the car with it.
We are at our wits end. Has anyone experienced this with a Honda?
I can't believe we missed anything.

A: I had a similar problem with an earlier model 'lude. Sometimes some of the (in my case the exhaust manifold) engine components attach on the firewall and make it difficult to remove. If the engine has never been pulled, you sometimes need to pry the mounts away from the block.
The chain cradle has to be set up so the engine is being lifted directly vertical, otherwise it will tilt and catch, leading to the same problem. If the car is lifting off as you try to pull, there's also a chance that it has slipped off the jack stands, double check it before you lower it again.
Q: My honda prelude power steering is making noise and leaking oil?
my 98 prelude power steering is leaking oil and makin noise. when the car is on and sitting still i hear a screaching noise. it makes more noise when i am turning. if i can get some suggestions on what to do i would really appreciate it.
A: Sounds like your power steering pump is getting ready to go out. Get it to a mechanic.
Q: How to remove Cd Player off Honda Prelude?
Got this Honda Prelude1991 Vtec, Problem the previous had a Cd player installed which I suspect is done wrongly as the Cd player keep ON even after i turn off the car, if i try to play some thing it says(More power required to play" The player is from FreeWay and the faceplate can be detached. I need to remove it to properly install it following steps from net, but I cant remove it, can any one please help with details instructions or otherwise pls?
A: ok so you need to take the face off. Surrounding the deck should be a plastic frame that you can remove... be careful not to break the frame . Then you get two butter knifes and stick them all the way back on the sides of the deck. then stick the face back on the deck. Push the butter knifes together and pull while pulling on the face.. this needs two people. if you do it right, it should slide right out. GOOD LUCK :DD
