Q: i own a acura legend, today i tried to reverse it out of my driveway and it stalled, and its an auto?
now it just kicks over and doesnt start? could it be a fuel pump. is this a common problem for a 95 honda/acura legend?

A: fuelpumps are not a common problem on acura's it might have flooded it self if it wasnt warmed up enough,hold gas pedal to floor and crank it,it might take a couple of minutes to clear out. see if this does it!! yes then can flood just like older cars.honda tech.9yrs seen alot of them do it

Is the 1999 acura RL engine more powerful than the 1995 type2 acura legend engine? i was thinking about swaping, but ive checked some reviews and the RL is 210hp stock buts its a 3.5 v6, however the 95 legend type2 is 230hp but a 3.2 liter any info is appreciated. thanks the rl is 224 ft-lbs. the legend is 210 ft-lbs.

A: the type 2 is more powerful. Engine size doesn't always equal more power. for example, the j30a in the 03-07 accord is a 3.0 and makes 240 hp. Conversely, the 3.8 v6 in the 95-2004 mustang make only like 140-150 hp. stick with your type 2.

A: Check your fuses. The transmission problem might have something to do with the VSS (vehicle speed sensor).

Q: how do you change thermostat on a 1993 acura legend?
Car is a 1993 Legend L. New radiator, but before heat comes out of vents the temp needle goes all the way to Hot and then the Tstat opens and heat bellows from the vents. Heat is maintained unless I come to a stop in which case the needle goes back up to Hot and the tstat opens again. Is this a basic bad tstat problem?

A: i own a repair shop,and yes it could be a bad thermostat,,and also a bad cooling fan causing some of this to happen but he thermostat is located in the housing at the end of the top of the radiator hose on it,,there's a housing there ,and its behind that housing,,you,ll have to drain some of the coolant out of it or it will gush out on you ,,then remove the housing ,and clean off all the old gasket,and replace the thermostat ,don't over tighten the bolts up on these ,,the brake the housings real easy,,re-fill the system and that should be it,,start it,and make sure there are no leaks in it,,good luck,i hope this help,s

I am putting my acura legend 4 dr up for sale local. It is a pretty car. runs very well. The lock on the windows is broke off. new heads new timing belt good tires acura wheels good paint good inside. a belt squeeks. belt dressing does not help.I just noticed a tiny pin whole in a tiny hose above that belt leaking water. I see these cars sale for 3500 to $10,000. I need to sale mine quick though to get my son a car. What should I ask for it. He needs 2500 to get him a car.

A: belts are very easy to replace. i dont recommend using an type of lubricant to stop the belt noise as if it get son your pulleys you can experience belt slipping which can ruin the belt. i suggest just buying a new belt and having it installed. The lock im guessing is a pop off and can be changed very easily and a new one can be bought at a auto parts store. i would start with a desired amount, if he needs $2500 ask for $3500 (or higher) and accept the best offer. never go below the $2500

A: Sounds like a fuel problem. Check your injectors, air filter, you may not be getting the right fuel to air ratio.

Q: 91 Acura Legend will not always start?
We have an acura legend that starts most of the time when it is cold outside and every thing seems to work fine. The problem is that when it warms up and/or the humidity goes up the car will not always start. Here is what happens- attempt to start car fails and check engine light stays on, along with all other dash lights. If we leave the key in the on position after 5-20 minutes the check engine light will go off and the car will then start. What is causing this? Any help would be great. 91-93 Legends have a distributorless ignition system. It has one ignition coil per cylinder instead of a distributor type system.

A: Sounds like a cracked distrubutor cap and or bad plug wires. Moisture settles into the cracks and disrupts the ignition spark. Look under the hood on a dark night with the engine running and I'll bet you'll see blue sparks dancing accross the top of the distributor or coil paks.

On cooler days the car will start up fine. On hot days the car will not start up until the temperature goes down.

A: this problem is very common in 89 to 91 acuras. replace the main relay on the drivers side under the dash.

hey im back again. i have a 92 legend which handles beautifuly idles fine runs shift everything fine. the only problem is that i have a slap tap. mechanics told me it a sticky valve so alot of people are telling me change oil i just did that like a week ago and tap is still there. So now I have engine restore im curiouse would this fix problem? How much do i put? and can i add it now since i olready had a oil change?, please help...

A: . I don't understand the 'solution' you've been offered. IF the valves are 'sticky', that means they have some varnish or gum-residue stuff from burning the gas. In a tight engine, NO oil gets on the valve, except the stem area. Otherwise your engine burns Oil. IF the tappetts or lifters are sticky, ya, clean oil [with a can of 'restore'] might help. BUT that sticky varnish is VERY tough, especially of a 15-yr old car. The ONLY proper way to clean it is to tear the engine apart. $800+. Until you do that, just keep pumping in cans of valve AND tappett cleaner in the gas tank and oil pan. Read the instructions ON the cans.

Q: What kind of manual transmission oil does a 1988 acura legend need?
It's a 5 speed stick shift. The tany has been leaking and I think it need oil. or a new transmission.

I know because I own a Honda civic manual shifter. Gear oil (usually used in Manual tranny) will make the shift really stiff and hard and wear out the syncro-mesh. Good Luck...
